The human world is so deeply entwined with nature. Everything that we do has some impact on the flora and fauna around us. Unfortunately, that impact can be quite negative. That is why the narrative of saving other lifeforms, such as turtles, has been a hot topic for a number of years now. In fact, Sea Turtle, Inc. has been pushing this point since 1977. Based in South Padre Island, Texas, their mission is not only to rescue the turtles, but also to educate the public about the rehabilitation and release processes. Texas home remodeling company Bat City Builders has decided to join the cause.
What does Sea Turtle, Inc. do?
South Padre Island is home to the critically endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle. They are actually the rarest species of sea turtle. This means that protecting them now is so important. Because education is one of the main pillars of Sea Turtle, Inc., the team aims to provide insight into how these creatures preserve the health of the world’s oceans. They host both virtual learning and in-person programs. Whichever route you choose, you are able to immerse yourself in the world of sea turtle rehabilitation.
How is Bat City Builders getting involved?
In 2021, there were 65 Kemp’s ridley nests found. Owner and CEO of Bat City Builders, Dawn Price, has sponsored a nest in the name of the company for 2022. Once nesting season begins, she will receive information from the Sea Turtle, Inc. team about the nest, the eggs, and the mother turtle. This is an exciting way to make the process more interactive. Later on in the year, during either June or July, Dawn will be making her way out to South Padre Island to help with the release of the hatchlings into the ocean. She looks forward to taking part in the conservation efforts.
What can you do to help?
As a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, Sea Turtle, Inc. is funded entirely by the public. This is achieved through donations and gift shop sales. You can even adopt your own sea turtle hatchling, resident, or patient. The general public is invited to watch the summertime release, but by giving back to the cause, you can know that you are making a real difference in the general care of the marine life on location. If you are a local interested in receiving more hands-on environmental education, consider volunteering with the organization.
If you are interested in sponsoring your own nest, head on over to Sea Turtle, Inc.’s website! Maybe Dawn will even see you on South Padre Island! However, if you are interested in building a nest for yourself (a.k.a. a custom home), reach out to us at Bat City Builders. As much as we want to enhance the lives of the turtles, we want to do the same for you. Let us construct or remodel your dream home!
